FACULTY OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE in association with Balliol College
The Faculty of English Language and Literature, in association with Balliol College, proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in English Literature and the history of the book 1450-1650 from 1 October 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. The history of the book will be interpreted broadly, including (but not limited to) descriptive and analytical bibliography; textual scholarship and criticism; the social and cultural production, circulation and consumption of texts; and codicology. The appointee’s research need not have an exclusive focus on the history of the printed book. The successful candidate will be offered the A.C. Bradley-J.C. Maxwell Tutorial Fellowship in English Literature 1350-1660 at Balliol College. Salary will be on a combined University and college scale up to a maximum of £58,157 p.a.
The appointed person will be required to provide thirty-six lectures per year or equivalent (in lectures and classes) for the English Faculty; to provide, for every week of full term, six hours per week of tutorial teaching or equivalent for the college; and to undertake examining and graduate supervision when requested. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in a relevant field, an excellent record in teaching, research and published scholarship in English literature in the period 1450-1650 and will be able to supervise and examine graduates in this field. The college requirements for teaching are for small-group and tutorial teaching from 1350-1660. The appointed person will also be expected to contribute to administration in the faculty and the college.
Further particulars, including details of how to apply, can be obtained from the English Faculty website (click here), or by writing to the English Faculty Office (english.office@ell.ox.ac.uk).
The closing date is 12.00 pm on Tuesday 5 March 2013.
Queries about the post should be addressed to Professor Daniel Wakelin: daniel.wakelin@ell.ox.ac.uk.
